The Counseling Center is an outpatient treatment center for adults and adolescents seeking treatment for mental health issues (including dual-diagnosis), behavioral health, addiction, alcoholism, and co-occurring disorders associated with addiction and substance use. The Counseling Center at Clark offers a full-spectrum of individual and family counseling including Group Therapy and Psychotherapy, in addition to our state-of-the-art Intensive Outpatient (IOP) substance abuse treatment program.

Michael Chenkin, Clinical Director

Michael Chenkin is Clinical Director for The Counseling Center at Clark, NJ. The Clinical Director overseas the clinical staff, and ensures clients are receiving the best treatment possible based on current knowledge of substance use disorders and treatment.

A New Jersey native into music, bicycling, and fishing, Michael is a 30 year veteran in the substance abuse treatment field. He advocates for patients and families on the Legislative and Social Action Committee of the National Association of Social Workers.

A graduate of Rutgers New Brunswick, Michael has taught graduate courses at Rutgers University Graduate School of Social Work, was a faculty member at Rutgers Summer Institute of Alcohol and Drug Studies, and trained professionals under the Central East Addiction Technology Transfer Center, the NJ Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services, the New Jersey Prevention Network, and other organizations.

Michael is passionate about incorporating effective research into clinical practice, including motivational interviewing, coping and social skills training, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT).

Paul Mehaffey is a licensed professional counselor with 35 years of clinical experience in suicide assessment, crisis intervention, and therapy for depression, anxiety, substance abuse, psychological trauma, life transitions, and other women and men’s issues. Paul earned a Master of Arts degree from the City University of New York, and a Master of Science degree from New York University.

Tom Roskin is the Marketing Representative for The Counseling Center throughout New Jersey and New York. Tom earned his Bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University and was born Roslyn, NY, giving him a dedication to the New York/New Jersey area that can only come from being a part of it. A dedicated family man Tom likes to spend his free time, playing golf, tennis, and working out, along with catching up on some reading, and of course spending quality time with his family.

Tom Roskin brings a sincere commitment to trustworthy support to his work at The Counseling Center, where he represents the outpatient treatment clinics as reliable partners in the Continuum of Care for patients and clients in New Jersey. Outpatient treatment is a perfect adjunct to inpatient rehabilitation, and for those who qualify, Intensive Outpatient is an effective, comprehensive program of treatment and follow-up care. The Counseling Center works hard to collaborate with treatment centers and providers to maintain a Continuum of Care in support of successful recovery.
